Family Day events scheduled at the Tournament Capital Centre (British Columbia, Canada) have been canceled by the City of Kamloops, encouraging families to take advantage of free outdoor recreation activities available all year.
According to the city’s press release, festivities will be delayed for another year as COVID-19-related public health restrictions remain.
Dewi Evans, the city’s community events coordinator, said in a statement that they were eagerly anticipating the events but would need to wait until next year.
The city highlighted that it is encouraging families to celebrate the holiday on Monday, February 21 by spending time with each other and spending time outdoors.
The city suggested trying the new cross-country ski trail in West Highlands Park, visiting the city’s nature trails and checking out the city’s downtown Kamloops‘ art murals, or going on the city’s self-guided historic walking tour.
“There are many free, family-fun activities available year-round in our community,” Evans said.
“With a variety of options for all ages and abilities, we hope to encourage residents to be active throughout the winter season, not just this upcoming Family Day.”
The city has said that residents can also search for seasonal outdoor recreation in the 2022 Winter Activity Guide.
